US Prepares 'unprecedented Level Of Security' For Tankers In Strait Of Hormuz

In Washington, D.C., they expect traffic to grow.

The U.S. plans to soon launch an insurance program for ships in the Strait of Hormuz. It's about military escorts for oil tankers.

The announcement was made by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Bloomberg reported.

Bessent told a cabinet meeting attended by President Donald Trump that U.S. authorities have taken steps to make oil stranded at sea available to the global market.

"Your (Bessent addressed Trump - ed.) decisive actions, such as the International Development Corporation's marine insurance program, in conjunction with Central Command, will soon provide carriers in the Gulf region with a level of security we have never seen before," he added.

The Secretary said tanker traffic in the Gulf region is beginning to recover and will only continue to grow.

"Today we are beginning to see more and more traffic into and out of the Gulf - more than we saw yesterday, and this is just the beginning. I'm confident that shipping traffic will increase every day even before we fully secure the strait," he added.

Bessent also assured that the U.S. economy is "better prepared for energy disruptions" as the country encourages domestic oil and gas production.

"Many underestimate the willingness of Americans to endure short-term volatility for the sake of the 50 years of security that await us," he opined.
