A Tanker Carrying Saudi Oil Has Broken The Blockade Of The Strait Of Hormuz

Carriers are beginning to use the strategically important route again.
A large oil tanker has passed through the Strait of Hormuz for the first time in days, despite the tense situation in the region. The Shenlong vessel, operated by a Greek company, is carrying about one million barrels of Saudi oil, Bloomberg reported. According to the agency, the tanker temporarily turned off its transponder during its passage through the strait and began transmitting a signal again only off the Indian coast, BILD reported.
The vessel's passage is seen as the first sign that individual carriers are once again beginning to take advantage of the strategically important route, through which much of the world's oil supply passes. That said, most shipping companies are still avoiding the Strait of Hormuz due to the risk of escalating conflict in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered a key point for global energy, with a significant portion of the Gulf's offshore oil supply passing through on a daily basis. Any disruptions in shipping in this area are usually immediately reflected in global energy prices.
