On April 4, Russian troops sent six guided aerial bombs to the Pechenezhskaya dam in the Chuguev district. This was reported by the head of the Kharkiv regional military administration Oleg Sinegubov on the air of a national telethon, an excerpt of which the official published in Telegram.

Sinegubov reminded that this is one of the largest water reservoirs in the region and a critically important facility.

According to the press service of the 16th Army Corps of the AFU, four aerial bombs hit the ground near the hydraulic structures, two more - in the water.

The military emphasized that the choice of time for the attack was particularly cynical, because the strike occurred during the spring floods, when the reservoir has accumulated the maximum volume of water. If the dam were to collapse, it could cause large-scale flooding of downstream settlements and serious environmental consequences.

Nevertheless, the dam was not damaged, the corps noted.

"Having failed to succeed physically, the enemy turned to an information and psychological attack. The Russian-controlled 'pseudo-Kharkiv' publicks started spreading fakes about dam damage and alleged emergency water discharge," the report said.

The corps said that water discharge is taking place in the normal controlled mode, and the situation at the facility is under constant monitoring. The Ukrainian military assured that they have prepared in advance plans for quick response to any emergency situations.

The press service of the 16th Corps published a video, as noted, taken from the aggressor's information resources.

Pechenezhskoye Reservoir has an area of 86.2 km², extends for 65 km in length and up to 3 km in width. The depth of the reservoir varies from 4.4 m to 20 m, and the catchment area is 8,400 km². It was created to provide fresh water for Kharkiv. The dam was regularly targeted by the Russian Federation as recently as last year. The occupiers tried to hit it with drones, aerial bombs and missiles of various types.

At the same time, as the 16th Army Corps reported at the time, the probable destruction of the Pechenezh Dam will not have a critical impact on the front.
