The ceasefire regime will begin to take effect on April 17.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu have agreed to begin a ten-day ceasefire, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced.

"These two leaders have agreed that in order to achieve PEACE between their countries, they will officially begin a ten-day ceasefire beginning at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time (April 17 00:00 p.m. Minsk time. - Note)," Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.

Earlier this week, representatives of Israel and Lebanon met in Washington for the first time in 34 years with the participation of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Israeli Ambassador to the US Yehiel Leiter said the meeting with Lebanese Ambassador Nada Hamadeh Moawad was a success - the two sides agreed that there should be a clearly defined border between Israel and Lebanon and agreed to continue talks in the coming weeks, The Washington Post reported.

Moawad, for her part, thanked the US for organizing the discussions, called for a ceasefire to return displaced residents and pointed to the severe humanitarian crisis in Lebanon.

The US State Department said the participants agreed to direct talks at "a time and place convenient for both sides."

Trump also said he directed Vice President J.D. Vance and Rubio, as well as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Kaine, to engage with Israel and Lebanon to achieve a "lasting peace."
