Spouses of deceased participants in the war against Ukraine have been granted the right to preferential admission to Russian universities and technical schools, President Vladimir Putin has signed the law, The Moscow Times reported.
The document, which was passed by the State Duma last week, introduces a separate quota for widows and widowers of "heroes of the Soviet military service," including employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service and the Russian Interior Ministry.
They are allowed not to take exams when applying for free education at bachelor's, specialist and vocational schools. Similar conditions apply to preparatory departments of federal state universities.
The quota also applies to the spouses of spouses of fighters of "armed formations of the DNR" and "LNR" who have died since May 2014. The right to the benefit is canceled in case of remarriage.
Another law Putin actually prohibited companies from firing military personnel who returned from the front to their previous jobs during downsizing. According to the document, the employer is now obliged to retain the workplace of an employee with the status of "veteran" in case of equal productivity and qualifications.
This applies in the case of those who were drafted under mobilization, sent to the Rosgvardiya under mobilization or contracted during mobilization, martial law or wartime.
"VET veterans are disciplined, responsible, able to work in a team and make decisions in stressful situations. These qualities are extremely important for any production or organization," said one of the authors of the law, deputy Yana Lantratova.
