Spanish medics came aboard to do a check.

The cruise ship MV Hondius, on which the deadly hantavirus outbreak broke out, arrived in port in Tenerife on the morning of May 10. Spanish medics have boarded the ship to conduct final checks before passengers begin disembarking.

It was reported by Reuters and Sky News.

Spanish officials said passengers who showed no signs of infection are being tested by Spanish medics to ensure they are symptom-free before being taken ashore in small boats.

Buses will then take the passengers to the Spanish island's main airport, where they will board planes bound for their home countries.

The ship has already been inspected by specialized experts after its arrival in port, according to media reports.

The inspection results showed no rodents on board, which had previously raised concerns about the sanitary safety of the liner.

After the completion of the medical check, authorities are expected to begin organized disembarkation of passengers soon.

Hantavirus outbreak

Reminder, the cruise ship MV Hondius was forced to stop off the coast of Cape Verde due to an outbreak of hantavirus, which has already killed at least three people.

According to media reports, one laboratory confirmed case of infection has been confirmed on board, with five other people under suspicion.

The cruise started March 20 in Argentina and was scheduled to end on May 4. About 150 passengers were on the ship at the time of the incident.

A 70-year-old Dutch citizen was the first to fall ill and die. Subsequently, his 69-year-old wife also died in a Johannesburg hospital while preparing for evacuation. The third person who died was also a Dutch national and his body remains on board the ship.
