The Indian mechanized sailing vessel Haji Ali is attacked and sunk in the Gulf of Oman. All 14 crew members were rescued by the Oman Coast Guard. India condemned the attack and called it "unacceptable".

What happened
The Haji Ali vessel was attacked while crossing from Somalia to Sharjah - it was set on fire before sinking. Indian authorities have not named those responsible for the attack. The crew was rescued by the Oman Coast Guard.
Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jashiwal condemned attacks on commercial ships and civilian crews and called for avoiding restrictions on shipping.
Context
The incident came amid escalating tensions between the US, Israel and Iran in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. About a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas production passes through the strait - the closure of the route has already triggered a rise in fuel prices around the world.
