Reuters revealed the details.
The United Arab Emirates will accelerate the construction of a new oil pipeline to double its export capacity through the port of Fujairah. Construction is due to be completed by 2027.
According to Reuters.
The Abu Dhabi government press office said it would greatly expand the ability to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed has instructed the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company to speed up construction of the West-East pipeline project.
The current Abu Dhabi oil pipeline, also known as the Habshan-Fujairah pipeline, can carry up to 1.8 million barrels a day and has proved crucial as the UAE seeks to maximize exports from the Gulf of Oman coast just across the strait.
The UAE and Saudi Arabia are the only producers in the Gulf that have pipelines exporting oil beyond the strait, the agency recalled. Oman has a long Gulf of Oman coastline, while Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar and Bahrain depend almost entirely on waterways for supplies.
The UAE's new pipeline should not be confused with Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline, which the chief executive of state oil giant Aramco Amin Nasser called a "critical lifeline."
Fujairah and the neighboring port of Khor Fakkan have become lifelines, particularly for non-oil trade, as the UAE relies heavily on food imports.
