Ukraine Has Broken The Equation Of War

The world has long been preparing for the wars of the past.

Ukraine may have already changed the very nature of modern warfare. I highly recommend the Jerusalem Post article.

Ukraine could not fight Russia symmetrically - by the number of tanks, planes or missiles. So the country tried to destroy the very equation that in a war of attrition, the side with the bigger budget and more powerful industrial base usually wins. The answer has been massively cheap drones, a distributed engineering ecosystem, speed of adaptation, and the de facto "democratization" of military technology.

In a few years, Ukraine has become a living laboratory of 21st century warfare. An FPV drone costing hundreds of dollars is now capable of destroying equipment worth millions. Volunteer workshops, small technology teams, and frontline engineers have begun to influence the battlefield more than traditional defense corporations.

And this is probably just the beginning. The next stage is autonomous systems: interceptor drones, robotic ground platforms, AI-assisted targeting, semi-automatic and then automatic air defense.

The world has long prepared for the wars of the past: countries produced high-tech platforms, allocated gigantic budgets, and modernization cycles remained slow. But the future may be much cheaper, mass-produced, flexible and technologically distributed.

Drones are not "miracle weapons" at all. They don't abolish artillery, logistics, infantry, or industry. But they radically change the economics of war and the price of a mistake on the battlefield. That is why Ukraine's experience is now being studied by virtually all the armies of the world.
