Trump Extended Sanctions Against Lukashenko's Regime

Another year.

Donald Trump has decided to extend US sanctions against the leadership of Belarus. His ruling was published in the Federal Register, a collection of official documents of the American government.

The sanctions were first imposed by George Bush Jr back in 2006. Then the document included those who "undermine democratic processes and institutions" in Belarus.

The restrictions were repeatedly extended, and on August 9, 2021, Joe Biden expanded the criteria for getting into the register.

The sanctions were set to expire on June 16, but Donald Trump decided to extend them for another year.

"The actions and policies of individual members of the government of Belarus and others <...> continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States," the document reads.
