Shots and explosions were heard inside the establishment.
In the state of Barinas (Venezuela), inmates of the INJUBA prison rioted and actually took control of part of the territory. This is reported by the Prison Monitoring Center (Observatorio Venezolano de Prisiones).
According to the Center, after the morning anthem, more than 1,300 prisoners, including about 100 women, began violent protests. Some of them climbed onto rooftops and set mattresses on fire. Guards opened fire on the protesters. After that, relatives of prisoners tried to break into the territory, but were stopped by the National Guard.
Shots and explosions were heard inside the institution, and there were also reports of tear gas being used. The reason for the riots is said to be the tightening of the detention regime by the new prison management.
