It is about the European project Freya, the development of which was joined by a Ukrainian company.
Co-founder of Firepoint Denis Shtilerman said that by the end of the year Ukraine may test a new air defense system, which is called a more affordable analogue of Patriot.
This is reported by Charter97.org with reference to the broadcast of MP Oleksiy Honcharenko.
Ukrainian company Firepoint is taking part in the international project Freya, which provides for the creation of a modern air defense system to intercept ballistic missiles.
According to the company's co-founder Denis Shtilerman, the developers expect to conduct the first tests of the system by the end of this year.
The Freya project is being created as a more affordable alternative to the American Patriot complex. The main task of the new system is to destroy ballistic targets.
The Patriot, which is considered to be one of the most effective air defense systems against ballistic missiles, has such capabilities.
According to Shtilerman, the participation of the Ukrainian side in the development allows using the practical experience gained during a full-scale war.
In recent years, Russia has regularly used ballistic missiles to attack Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
Therefore, the issue of strengthening air defense systems is not only a matter of the Russian Federation, but also a matter of the Ukrainian military's ability to destroy ballistic missiles.
