Lithuanian border guards have intercepted an aircraft coming from Belarus in Šalčininkai district.
The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service (VSAT) reported this on Monday, LRT reports.
According to the report, on Saturday evening, officers of the Purvenai border guard of the Vareni border guard detachment received a request from the Air Force asking if a flying object, probably a drone, had been spotted in the airspace between Purvenai, Eišiškės and Mantviliškės in Šalčininkai district.
Surveillance operators soon spotted the drone flying towards the state border.
After the border guards used anti-drone equipment, the object started moving towards the Eišiškės border point. The border guards quickly went to the suspected landing site. A few minutes later, the border guards again used counter-aircraft equipment until the drone finally landed near the village of Dumble.
After inspecting the area, VSAT officers found a homemade drone without cargo about 500 meters from the state border. It was badly damaged from falling to the ground.
After conducting a detailed inspection of the area, VSAT officers took the drone to the border fence in Purvenai.
