The "Slavneft-YANOS" oil refinery is one of the five largest facilities of its kind in the Russian Federation.
On the morning of Sunday, June 28, drones reached Russia’s Yaroslavl Region, where the region’s administrative center came under attack. Reports online suggest that a key Russian oil infrastructure facility may have been hit, according to "Focus".
According to preliminary reports, drones may have struck an oil refinery in Yaroslavl. This was reported by OSINT channels.
“Yaroslavl, oil refinery attacked,” analysts write.
Footage circulating online shows smoke rising from the site of the strike. Monitoring channels speculate that the strike likely hit the grounds of the local “Slavneft-YANOS” oil refinery. Explosions were heard in the vicinity of the facility.
It is worth noting that, as of the time of publication, there had been no official confirmation of the attack on the oil refinery. However, the region’s governor Mikhail Evreev warned around 6:00 a.m. on Sunday that an air raid alert had been declared in the Yaroslavl Region due to the threat of drones.
A short time later, Yevraev wrote that the Yaroslavl Region was under attack by drones. Amid the drone strikes, local authorities were forced to block traffic on the road leading out of Yaroslavl toward Moscow.
“Please refrain from traveling in that direction and its surrounding areas, or choose a route that bypasses this section,” the governor urged local residents.
The “Slavneft-YANOS” oil refinery is one of the five largest facilities of its kind in Russia. It processes approximately 15 million metric tons of crude oil annually. The facility is considered a key component of the Russian military’s logistics support.
It is worth noting that on the night of June 28, drones also attacked the oil refinery in Slavyansk-on-Kuban: a massive fire broke out at the facility.
