The suspect in the bombing may have fled to Italy.
Monaco’s investigative authorities, who are investigating an explosion near a residential building that injured Ukrainian businessman Vadim Yermolaev, are considering the possible involvement of the Security Service of Ukraine in the incident as one of their working theories.
This was reported by the French publication Le Figaro, citing several informed sources. According to the newspaper, investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the explosion may not have been an assassination attempt, but rather a “warning”.
The publication also claims that the suspect in the bombing went into hiding after the incident in the French town of Bosoley, which borders Monaco, and may have subsequently fled to Italy. The search for him continues.
The explosion occurred on the evening of June 29 in the lobby of a residential building in Monaco. According to official data from local authorities, three people were injured—a man, a woman, and a 13-year-old teenager. Their identities have not been disclosed, though several media outlets reported that among the injured were Dnipro businessman Vadym Yermolaev and his son. Subsequent reports indicated that the injured woman was not his wife.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is in contact with the authorities in Monaco, and that Ukrainian diplomats are working at the scene of the incident.
“At present, the victims are being identified through official channels, and information regarding whether they hold Ukrainian citizenship is being verified,” the Foreign Ministry said.
Monaco police have not yet classified the explosion as a terrorist attack. The investigation is proceeding under charges of attempted murder and the illegal placement of an explosive device in a public place.
