U.S. State Department: Relations Between Russia And Cuba Pose A “Direct Threat” To The United States

The U.S. administration claims that relations between Russia and Cuba pose a “direct threat” to the security of the United States. The report was released by the U.S. Department of State, and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio posted a link to it on his page on social media platform X.

The report asserts that the Russian Federation and Cuba continue to maintain strong economic and political ties.

“Today, this relationship is best characterized as a strategic partnership that not only poses a direct threat to the continental United States but also challenges U.S. power and interests throughout Latin America,” the document states.

According to the report’s authors, Cuba serves as a “key vector for destabilizing and undermining” U.S. interests in Washington’s immediate “sphere of influence.” Relations between Havana and Moscow allow Russia “to project power into the region without having to build military bases or maintain a significant military presence,” the U.S. State Department notes.

Similar accusations are also leveled in the report against Iran and China. It also states that Cuban intelligence services have infiltrated “the highest echelons of the U.S. government.” Finally, the U.S. Department of State expresses the view that Cuba “has recruited and cultivated generations of activists from the United States.”
