Laima Vaikule To Russians: Why Don't You Want To Live Well?

A well-known Latvian singer asked herself a question.

Latvian singer Laima Vaikule, an active supporter of Ukraine, has addressed the Russian people.

“I’m watching the news right now, and everywhere I see: ‘Russia, we’ll get through this! ‘There won’t be any bread, there won’t be any gasoline—we’ll get through it.’ Why do you even want to go through this? Why don’t you want to live well?” the singer asks in astonishment.

In the DW, the singer also addressed Putin

“I just found out that there’s a Japanese scientist who’s promising to invent a way in five years that will let people live to be 120 years old. While the Japanese are thinking about extending life, Russia is thinking about how to destroy these Ukrainians, this Europe—everyone in the world, in fact,” says Laima. “I’m addressing the President of Russia: take a break, there’s no need to fight right now—you need to leave! Spend five years relaxing at your dacha—and you’ll live to be 120!”

A very important part of the singer’s life today is the festival that bears her name. It has become a popular event in the music world of the post-Soviet space.

This year, the Laima Rendezvous Jūrmala festival will take place in Jūrmala from July 24 to 26. Among its star-studded lineup are Semyon Slepakov with a new show, Monetochka, Andrey Makarevich, Ukrainian singer Olga Polyakova, and many others.
