A close associate of Trump has arrived in Ukraine.

Amid all the turbulent events , Laura Lummer—one of the most influential bloggers and activists in the MAGA world—has arrived in Ukraine. I’ve already written about her and her views, so I won’t repeat myself. Let me just remind you that Lumer’s audience exceeds two million people, Donald Trump listens to her, and the blogger herself has had a direct influence on some key decisions made in the Oval Office.

So, until recently, Laura Lumer, like many ultra-conservative American bloggers, was spreading anti-Ukrainian rhetoric. In February 2024, she wrote: “I really don’t like Ukraine. I’ve never been there. But nothing good comes to mind when I think of Ukraine. On the other hand, I don’t have the slightest negative feeling toward Russia.” In addition, she claimed that Ukraine was full of Nazis, opposed providing aid, and so on.

It was incredibly difficult to get here because of the Russian terrorists who closed the airspace,” Lumer wrote upon her arrival in Kyiv. “I want to see Ukraine with my own eyes. I’ll try to find evidence to back up the propaganda I’ve been fed. And if I don’t find any, I’ll tell everyone about it so they, too, can come here and see the truth.”

For many, the news of Lumer’s arrival came as a surprise, though her visit had been in the works for some time—interest grew particularly after her partner visited Odessa and Kyiv last month. Following the trip, Laura Lumer plans to produce a special episode of her podcast. I know of several very interesting meetings planned for her and her team, so I hope that American supporters of the MAGA movement are in for some truly high-quality content. But the podcast is only part of the story.

On the very first day of her trip, Lumer published a series of posts that collectively garnered more than 1.5 million views on Twitter. In them, she writes about how Russia, together with China, is interfering in U.S. elections; how Russia is killing members of religious minorities who do not belong to the Russian Orthodox Church; how Russia has abducted thousands of Ukrainian children; how Russia is helping Iran kill U.S. citizens and supports a regime that wants Donald Trump dead. In short, she addresses topics that resonate particularly strongly with a conservative audience.

While there is plenty of information about this in the American media, it has been lacking on platforms run by bloggers who support the MAGA movement. It seems Laura Lumer is determined to change that. “I look forward to showing millions of Trump supporters and all Americans just how brutal Russia is,” the blogger wrote. “And to explain why the U.S. could be the next target if we don’t wake up.”
