The President Of Lebanon Called On Israel To End Hostilities Once And For All

Joseph Aoun expressed his desire to bring stability to the region.

Lebanon is committed to a peace agreement with Israel, said Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. He described the ultimate goal of the deal as putting an end to hostilities between the two countries once and for all.

“The time has come for the region to achieve stability,” Aoun said during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington (the meeting was broadcast on the White House’s YouTube channel).

Joseph Aoun asked Donald Trump to continue supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces, otherwise the country could return to the state of civil war it experienced from 1975 to 1990. “We do not want that to happen again. All we are asking is that you continue to support the Lebanese Armed Forces,” Mr. Aoun noted.

Lebanon and Israel signed an agreement on June 26 in Washington, D.C., with U.S. mediation. The parties agreed to establish pilot zones in southern Lebanon from which Israeli troops will be withdrawn. Once the Shiite group Hezbollah has been disarmed, control over these territories will be transferred to the Lebanese authorities. On July 15, the sixth round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel on this matter took place.
