Johnson: Ukraine's Admission To NATO Would Force Putin To End The War

The West "made a mistake" by failing to determine Ukraine's final status.

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke in an interview with Sky News about Vladimir Putin's continuation of the war in Ukraine. A clip from the video was posted on Facebook on July 19. According to Johnson, the war continues because the Kremlin leader senses uncertainty in the West, reports "Gordon".

One way to end the war, in his view, would be for Ukraine to join NATO.

“As long as Putin believes he has a chance to maintain uncertainty regarding Ukraine, he will continue to attack. “Therefore, one way to end the war is for Washington, London, and Paris to reaffirm what was previously policy—namely, that Ukraine must join NATO,” Johnson said.

He added that the West “made a mistake” by failing to determine Ukraine’s final status. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s accession to the Alliance could have prompted Putin to conclude a peace agreement.

“Right now, he [Putin] has no reason to believe that we are serious, and he will continue to put pressure on Ukraine until he feels that the game is over and that the West has a long-term strategic goal—to turn Ukraine into a different country,” the former British prime minister emphasized.
