New details about the attack.
In Kirov, Russia, following a missile attack a factory producing anti-aircraft missiles for the Russian military is on fire; it is located more than 1,000 km from the border with Ukraine.
According to Astra, on the morning of July 24, residents of Kirov reported explosions and a fire. It later emerged that the target of the attack was the Vyatka-based machine-building enterprise “AVITEK.”
The plant manufactures products for military, dual-use, and civilian applications, including air defense systems and aircraft components. The plant has a full production cycle—from casting and forging/pressing to final assembly and product testing.
According to information from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the plant specializes in the production of surface-to-air guided missiles, target missiles, ejection seats for pilot rescue, aircraft hoisting systems and winches, and similar equipment. The company is involved in the production of “Tor” surface-to-air missile systems. The plant is subject to sanctions imposed by the United States, Ukraine, and other countries.
Fire Point co-founder Denis Shtilerman posted a video of the rocket launch. There is no caption under the video except for an emoji. However, analysts speculate that this is the very rocket that struck the “Avitek” plant in Kirov.
Later, Fire Point officially confirmed the strike on the plant.
“In Kirov, an FP-5 ‘Flamingo’ missile struck the ‘AVITEK’ machine-building plant, which is part of the Almaz-Antey Defense Industry Concern. AVITEK participates in the production of the Tor air defense missile system and the Kh-101 and Kh-59M2/Kh-59M2A cruise missiles by supplying components for their engines. “In addition, the plant manufactures, repairs, and modernizes K-36DM ejection seats for the Su-34 and Su-57 fighter jets,” the statement reads.
Commentators note that the plant in Kirov is located approximately 1,100 km from the border with Ukraine as the crow flies. This is about 200 km closer than the record-breaking long-range strike by an FP-5 “Flamingo” missile on the Votkinsk Missile Plant.
