The Ukrainian Armed Forces Struck A Russian Equivalent Of HIMARS For The First Time

The Ukrainian Defense Forces have struck a "Sarma" multiple-launch rocket system for the first time—a system that Russian propagandists refer to as an "analog" of the American HIMARS system. This was reported by "Military".
A video of the strike was posted on Facebook by the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Azov.” Fighters reported that they had repelled a large-scale mechanized offensive by Russian occupation forces in the Dobropillia sector.
The “Military” outlet noted that to support their mechanized columns, the Russians also deployed the “Sarma” multiple launch rocket system (MLRS), which was subsequently destroyed by the Defense Forces using an aviation-type strike drone.
Analysts added that this system is a development of the “Kama” program, which aims to create a lightweight 300-mm rocket artillery system with guided munitions.
In 2023, Russian media publicly announced for the first time that work was underway on a multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) mounted on a “KamAZ” chassis with improved mobility.
Analysts noted that the first “Sarma” was unveiled only two years later at the Motovilikhinskie Zavody facility, where it was revealed that its weight had been reduced by nearly 10 metric tons compared to the 33-metric-ton “Tornado-S.” The more compact vehicle, equipped with a launcher whose number of guide rails had been reduced to six, was mounted on a four-axle KamAZ-63501 chassis with an armored cab.
According to procurement documents available to this publication, in 2024 the Russian Ministry of Defense ordered 12 launchers and the same number of transport-loading vehicles to accompany them.
Each rocket launcher cost the Russian Army 155 million rubles, or $1.9 million, which turned out to be slightly more expensive than the “Tornado-S” systems on heavy wheeled chassis, which were ordered at the same time. The TZM on the same chassis cost an additional 64 million rubles.
