A Secret Tunnel Was Discovered On The Border Between Belarus And Lithuania

Lithuanian border guards discovered an underground tunnel near the border with Belarus that had been dug from Belarusian territory toward Lithuania. The discovery was made in the Varėna District near the village of Peščiai, according to Delfi.lt.

According to the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service, on Wednesday morning, border guards used special technical equipment designed to detect underground vibrations to discover a suspicious underground structure. Polish colleagues were then brought in to assist with the operation, bringing specialized equipment for detecting tunnels.

During the inspection, the location of the underground passage was identified. Border guards drilled a hole and confirmed that a tunnel was indeed being dug from Belarusian territory toward Lithuania.

Later, the passage was uncovered using an excavator. At a depth of about one and a half meters, a tunnel with a diameter of approximately one meter was found. It ran from Belarusian territory, about five meters from the state border, toward Lithuania.

However, the tunnel had not yet been completed: the exit onto Lithuanian territory had not been dug through, so illegal migrants or other individuals had not yet been able to use it.
