Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during telephone conversation with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, stated that a referendum on joining the European Union could be held in the country.

This was reported by the Armenian service of "Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty".

The conversation was the first since the parliamentary elections held in Armenia in June.

According to the Armenian government, Pashinyan also demanded that Moscow lift restrictions on imports of Armenian products, emphasizing that they violate bilateral agreements and the rules of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

The Kremlin, in turn, reported that Putin highlighted the need to determine the country’s future course as soon as possible: to hold a referendum on joining the EU or maintaining membership in the EAEU.

The Armenian government clarified that Pashinyan has allowed for such a referendum, but only after an official application for EU membership has been submitted.

It is also known that Moscow did not congratulate Pashinyan on his political party’s victory in the parliamentary elections.
