Two Belarusian Athletes Won Medals At The European Athletics Championships

Belarusian track and field athlete Krystyna Timanovskaya, competing for the Polish team, won a bronze medal as part of that team at the European Athletics Championships, according to "Zerkalo".
The tournament took place in Birmingham, UK. The British team took first place with a new European record of 42.05 seconds. Switzerland took second place with a time of 43.12 seconds, and Poland—which included Timanovskaya—came in third with 43.15 seconds.
She completed her leg of the relay in 42.63 seconds. This is her personal best and her most significant achievement since she began competing for the Polish national team following the scandal at the 2021 Olympics (after criticizing the leadership, she was suspended from competition).
The European Championships also proved successful for the Belarusian Maria Zhodik, who also represents the Polish national team. In the high jump competition, she cleared 1.95 meters on her first attempt and took second place. First place went to Ukrainian Yaroslava Maguchikh with a jump of 1.97 meters.
Maria Zhodik has been living in Poland since 2022. In the summer of 2024, the International Association of Athletics Federations authorized the Belarusian high jumper to officially represent that country on the international stage. In September 2025, Zhodik won a silver medal in the high jump at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
At the 2021 Belarusian Track and Field Championships, Zhodik set a personal best by clearing 196 cm. This qualified her to represent Belarus at the Tokyo Olympics; however, as reported by the Belarusian Sports Solidarity Fund, officials from the Belarusian Athletics Federation failed to ensure that doping tests were conducted within the deadlines set by the International Association of Athletics Federations. Zhodik signed an open letter from Belarusian athletes against violence and also condemned Russia’s war against Ukraine.
