The Kremlin Is Secretly Preparing For A Major Blackout In Moscow

Moscow is preparing for power outages: as winter approaches, Ukraine will destroy Moscow’s 500 kV and 220 kV power rings. That is why the government has already banned cryptocurrency mining in Moscow and the Moscow Region.

The ban will take effect on August 15, 2026. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed the decree.
Prior to this, a ban on mining was in effect in 13 energy-deficient regions, including the annexed territories of Ukraine, the North Caucasus republics, and regions in southeastern Siberia.
The strain on the power grid caused by miners is an additional risk factor for a blackout in the event that substations around Moscow are destroyed. And there are some very interesting ones there.
The Moscow metropolitan area is equipped with complete 500 kV, 220 kV, and 110 kV SF6-insulated switchgear (KRUÉ) units. These are not transformers, which Russia could produce on its own if necessary.
These are complex products, individually designed for each substation’s unique electrical layout and the conditions of the power grid.
Even China has been unable to master the production of equipment of comparable reliability, despite having the necessary manufacturing capacity. And other countries will not provide Moscow with anything.
The problem lies in the superfluidity of SF6 gas and a number of other factors. So there will simply be nothing to replace the power transformers destroyed by Ukraine. A large number of substations in other regions of the Russian Federation have also been converted to use similar equipment, so strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces will quickly destroy the country’s unified power grid, bring trains to a halt, and slow down the delivery of equipment, ammunition, and supplies to the front lines.
The Russian government is well aware of what awaits the country this fall, but no one intends to warn the public or the business community. The Ministry of Energy is aware of the problems with the power grid’s capacity and stability, where a balance must be maintained between generation and consumption.
Otherwise, the lights will go out in dozens of regions. After all, it is a single system that instantly “senses” changes and requires readjustment, if possible. Otherwise, it breaks down into separate “energy islands,” followed by a total blackout.
Due to desynchronization, the nuclear power plant’s power units will also shut down via their own safety systems. It turns out that the Kremlin always understands perfectly well where Ukraine will strike. And the offers made to WB sellers a week before the strikes on the warehouses were far from a coincidence. Just like the ban on cryptocurrency mining in the Moscow region.
They understand, but there’s nothing they can do except issue yet another round of bans and disclaimers.
