“According to preliminary information, the ‘Oreshnik’ was detonated. This may refer to a submarine,” the report states.

It is noted that residents of the village of Volchanets in Primorsky Krai observed a column of smoke in Russian waters. Eyewitnesses saw military ships near the site of the explosion. At this time, there have been no official comments from the Russian government or the navy command.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian website "Military" does not rule out that the explosion may be linked to the Russian Pacific Fleet’s exercises on August 20, which involved the missile cruiser "Varyag," the nuclear submarine “Omsk,” and the “Bastion” coastal missile system.

The project for the extensive modernization of the “Omsk” calls for replacing the existing 24 launchers with universal launchers capable of carrying up to 72 “Kalibr,” “Onyx,” or “Zircon” missiles.
