Lamborghini's CEO Made A Sensational Statement About Chinese Cars

  • 27.08.2026, 17:09

The Italian company is focusing on the brand's traditional values.

Lamborghini does not yet see a serious threat from Chinese supercar manufacturers. The head of the Italian company Stefan Winkelmann stated that modern Chinese models are unable to offer buyers the same level of performance, sound, and excitement, according to Motor1.

The company’s CEO noted that Chinese competitors are focusing primarily on electric vehicles. Lamborghini, on the other hand, has decided to abandon plans for its own electric vehicle and continues to develop hybrid powertrains.

“Since they’re making electric cars, and we say we’re not making them for no reason—there’s a specific idea behind it,” said Winkelmann.

Lamborghini had previously postponed the launch of its first electric car until 2029, but in February it definitively abandoned the project. According to the company’s CEO, investing in technology for which there is virtually no customer demand would be “financially irresponsible toward shareholders.”

Lamborghini believes that Chinese electric supercars cannot yet compete with their hybrid models in terms of the combination of power, sound, and emotional appeal. However, the company does not rule out that the situation could change.

“I always say: never say never,” added Winkelmann. Thus, Lamborghini continues to focus on the brand’s traditional values for now and does not view Chinese supercars as a direct threat. However, the growing capabilities of the Chinese auto industry are prompting the Italian brand to remain cautious.
