Several powerful explosions have been reported.
On the night of August 28, drones attacked the Saratov Region of Russia. The Engels-2 military airfield, where the Russian military’s strategic bombers are based, came under attack, according to "Focus".
A series of explosions and the active engagement of Russian air defense systems were heard both in the Engels area and in Saratov. OSINT channels reported the attack.
Numerous explosions in the Engels area were heard starting around 3:00 a.m. tonight. In footage circulating online, the sounds of air defense systems can be heard, and flashes are visible in the sky. Earlier, an alert had been issued in the region due to the threat of drones.
According to analysts, the explosions and air defense activity could be heard even in Saratov. Smoke was visible after the attack, but as of this writing, there was no information on possible consequences.
Subsequently, OSINT analysts from the Supernova+ channel released footage of the attack on the “Engels-2” military airfield, located near Engels. It is believed that this was the airfield targeted last night.
The footage shows smoke rising above the airfield following the strikes. Analysts speculate that the drones may have struck one of Russia’s Tu-95MS strategic bombers.
It is worth noting that “Engels-2” is one of Russia’s key and most powerful strategic (long-range) aviation centers. Heavy strategic missile-carrying bombers are stationed at the airfield, specifically the Tu-95MS, Tu-160s, and Tu-22M3s, while its warehouses store air-launched cruise missiles (such as the Kh-101, Kh-555, etc.) and aerial bombs. The airbase is located 700–900 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, which is why it is frequently subjected to drone attacks.
