The KGB announced that it had “thwarted the activities” of a group of Belarusian citizens suspected of “gathering classified information about defense industry enterprises on behalf of a foreign handler.”

According to the agency, the suspects allegedly “gathered information about the enterprises’ production capacities, the movement of certain types of products, and employees.” “Specially created communication channels” were allegedly “used” to transmit the information obtained.

The KGB reported the detention of members of the “group.” The agency did not disclose the exact number of “suspects.”

Communication devices, electronic storage media, and “funds received for carrying out assignments” were seized from those detained, the KGB reported.

A “criminal case” has been opened in connection with the incident.
