Major Fire Near Anapa: Blaze Is Approaching Residential Areas

One possible cause is arson.

A fire near the Russian resort town of Anapa in the Krasnodar Krai has been burning for nearly a day; it has engulfed more than a dozen hectares and is approaching residential neighborhoods, according to Russian media reports, as relayed by UNIAN.

Social media posts indicate that on August 30 in Anapa, the fire engulfed reed beds and began spreading toward residential areas.

The extent of the blaze was captured by a NASA satellite system, making the fire visible even from space. The situation with the spread of the flames is worsening due to strong winds and dry vegetation.

Local authorities are urging residents to close their windows and stay indoors due to heavy smoke. The fire has also disrupted transportation in the resort area—specifically, traffic has been blocked on a section of Federal Highway A-290 between Novorossiysk and Kerch and on part of the Simferopol Highway; vehicles are being rerouted.

Russian media report that the fire has currently been contained near the city’s residential neighborhoods. Specifically, according to “Novosti Anapy” (https://t.me/s/AnapaNowosti), as of this morning, the area of active burning is 50 square meters. Throughout the night, rescue workers fought the fire in the floodplains, preventing it from spreading to residential buildings and city businesses.

On the night of August 12, the Krasnodar Region came under a massive attack by hundreds of Ukrainian drones. Novorossiysk was hit the hardest, with strikes and fires reported in the port, at the oil terminal, and near the Russian Navy’s shipyard. Governor Kondratyev stated at the time that Anapa, Gelendzhik, and the Temryuk District were also targeted.
