Drones Struck The Seaport In Makhachkala

The UAVs reached the Republic of Dagestan.

On the night of September 10, drones reached the Republic of Dagestan in Russia and struck Makhachkala, located more than 1,400 kilometers from the border with Ukraine. A series of explosions rocked the city and a fire broke out, according to "Focus".

According to preliminary reports, a local seaport in Makhachkala came under attack by drones. This was reported by OSINT channels, citing eyewitness accounts from the scene.

The attack on Makhachkala began around 4:00 a.m. Videos from the city began circulating online, in which the sounds of explosions and air defense fire can be heard, and flashes are visible in the sky. Russian air defense forces attempted to shoot down the UAVs over the city; however, it appears that some of them still reached their targets, as a fire was reported in Makhachkala following the explosions.

Early this morning, monitoring channels reported that a fire and heavy smoke were observed in the seaport area of Makhachkala following the strikes. Local residents are also reporting damage in the city itself, though details are not yet known.

What is known about the seaport in Makhachkala

The Makhachkala International Commercial Seaport is located on the western coast of the Caspian Sea. This port is considered Russia’s only ice-free, deep-water port on the Caspian Sea.

The port features an oil terminal and is equipped with five specialized berths for tankers, as previously stated by the Russian Ministry of Transport. The annual oil transshipment capacity is 7.9 million metric tons.
