The Ukrainian Armed Forces Struck A Military Airfield In Rostov-on-Don For The Second Time In Two Days

Ukrainian forces launched a massive attack on the Rostov Region on the night of September 18, according to Rostov Governor Yuri Slyusar. According to him, more than 50 drones were “destroyed” overnight in the skies over Rostov-on-Don, Taganrog, Bataysk, and five other districts. “According to preliminary reports, no one was injured, but there were consequences on the ground as a result of falling UAV debris. Emergency services are working at the sites of the incidents,” the regional governor wrote on his Telegram channel, without providing further details. Local residents reported “deafening explosions” starting around 12:30 a.m.
The mayor of Rostov-on-Don Alexander Skryabin warned residents about the air defense system’s activation and urged them to take shelter indoors. He did not specify what exactly was targeted in the attack. According to the Ukrainian monitoring channel Supernova, the airbase in Rostov may have been the target of the airstrike once again.
Ukrainian media outlets are publishing footage from eyewitnesses showing shots fired at aerial targets in the night sky, accompanied by several explosions. “Crimean Wind” also reports on a fire near the airfield. The previous strike on the “Rostov-Central” airfield took place on Thursday night. According to Ukrainian officials, three military aircraft and three military helicopters were hit.
According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the aircraft in question include, in particular, an An-12 military transport aircraft and two An-26s. A fire broke out and explosions occurred at the aircraft parking area, the service claimed. Prior to this, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had reported successful attacks on the airfield in Rostov on September 6. A fire broke out at the base, but it was not specified exactly what had been hit. The Ukrainian Armed Forces also claimed to have destroyed the “Podlet” radar station and two “Pantsir-S1” air defense missile systems in Rostov.
