German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in New York, according to Zeit reports.

As noted, the meeting between Wadephul and Lavrov took place on the sidelines of the general debate at the UN.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova confirmed the meeting, noting that it was allegedly initiated by the German side.

This is the first meeting between the German and Russian foreign ministers since 2022.
