On the night of September 4, the Ukrainian Defense Forces attacked military targets in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai. According to preliminary reports, an S-400 air defense missile system was destroyed in the Sochi area. This was reported by Dialog.UA following a review of social media.

An air raid alert was declared in the Krasnodar Region on September 4 shortly after midnight. Subsequently, residents of Sochi reported several explosions.

It is claimed that Ukrainian UAVs attacked the S-400 air defense missile system, which was protecting strategic facilities in the area (primarily the seaport and a major oil depot in Adler).

As of the time of this report, Krasnodar Krai Governor Veniamin Kondratyev had not yet commented on the situation in the region.

However, the Krasnodar Krai Operational Headquarters reported that Russian air defense forces in Sochi and the neighboring village of Sirius are attempting to repel a massive attack by Ukrainian drones.

According to the statement, operational and special forces are working at the sites where UAV debris was found. The S-400 is a Russian medium- and long-range air defense missile system that the Russian Armed Forces adopted in 2007. NATO classifies it as the SA-21 Growler.

The S-400 air defense system uses radar to detect air targets at ranges of up to 600 km and can shoot them down at distances of up to 400 km, depending on the type of anti-aircraft missile, and at altitudes of up to 30 km.
