Sobolenko Repeated Davenport's Unique Feat At The U.S. Open

The world's No. 1 tennis player, Belarusian Arina Sobolenko, has become the first player since Lindsay Davenport to reach the round of 16 in at least 16 consecutive consecutive Grand Slam tournaments.

On Friday, in the third round of the US Open, Sobolenko defeated Uzbekistan’s Kamila Rakhimova, ranked 92nd in the world, with a score of 6–3, 6–4.

Davenport reached the fourth round in 20 consecutive Grand Slam tournaments, from Wimbledon 2000 through the 2006 U.S. Open.

The Belarusian has reached this stage at her sixth consecutive U.S. Open, having won the last two tournaments.

The total prize pool for the U.S. Open, which runs through September 13, is $108 million.
