Cyclone "Villa" Made Its Presence Felt In Belarus

The Ministry of Emergency Situations is addressing the aftermath of the severe weather.

On the evening of September 4, Cyclone “Vilya”—which forecasters and the Ministry of Emergency Situations had warned about—hit Belarus.

Gale-force winds and heavy rain continued throughout the night, causing damage that rescue workers have since cleared up.

Fortunately, there were no casualties. However, trees fell due to the severe weather. EMERCOM units provided assistance in cutting up and removing the trees in the Brest, Vitebsk, Gomel, and Minsk regions, as well as in the capital.

Six damaged vehicles have been reported.

In Mozyr, a fallen tree blocked traffic on Fabrichny Lane. Emergency Ministry workers cut up the trunk and cleared the road.

In Minsk, in addition to fallen trees, there was a reported incident involving the collapse of temporary wooden supports for an electrical cable.

According to weather forecasts, the cyclone will move into Russia this afternoon, and Belarus will be in its rear—after the main precipitation zone passes, strong winds will persist, with possible brief showers and thunderstorms.

Rescue workers continue to monitor the situation.
