Ukraine proposed a ceasefire to Russia, but received no response.
The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kirill Budanov reported that Ukraine had proposed a ceasefire to Russia during the U.S. delegation’s visit to Moscow and Kyiv, but received no response. He made these remarks in a comment “Suspilne” on Saturday, September 5.
According to Budanov, the proposal was “conveyed personally to dictator Vladimir Putin.” It concerned a temporary halt to airstrikes and combat operations on the front lines.
“But the drones are still flying—you’ve all seen it,” Budanov said.
The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine suggested that Russia would not carry out strikes on Kyiv during the visit of U.S. President’s special representatives Steve Whitcott and Jared Kushner, which is expected on September 6.
On Saturday, Russia continued shelling Ukraine. As a result of the attacks, five people were confirmed dead in Kamenskoye, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. In Mykolaiv, two people were injured in a strike on the Epicenter shopping center. Additionally, drone strikes were recorded overnight in the Kyiv, Poltava, Odesa, and other regions of Ukraine.
On September 4, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that U.S. presidential special envoys Steve Whitcroft and Jared Kushner would visit Ukraine on September 6—following their visit to Russia on September 5. Ukraine suspended long-range strikes against Russia during this period to ensure the “normal functioning of Russian airspace,” Zelenskyy said.
On the night of September 5, the Ukrainian Armed Forces received orders to temporarily observe a ceasefire along the line of contact from 12:00 a.m. on September 5 until 11:59 p.m. on September 8. This is an initiative by the Ukrainian side.
