A fire broke out in the ship's hold

On Saturday afternoon, September 5, the Russian icebreaker *Admiral Makarov*, which was undergoing repairs, caught fire in Kronstadt. The fire broke out in the ship’s hold on Petrovskaya Street and spread over an area of 80 square meters.

Fifty-two rescue workers are on the scene, according to the St. Petersburg Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The P-1039-class diesel-electric icebreaker “Admiral Makarov” was built in 1975 at a shipyard in Helsinki. The vessel operated in the Far East and participated in several rescue operations. In November 2025, the icebreaker was transferred to the Northwest Basin Branch.

It should be noted that a little less than two years ago, on November 26, 2024, a fire was also extinguished on the icebreaker.
