The U.S. Issued A Strong Statement Regarding Hybrid Attacks On NATO

The United States Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker stated that Alliance countries should not tolerate deliberate hybrid attacks. NATO is particularly concerned about the attempted drone attack on the Leipzig/Halle Airport. Washington is ready to support its allies in responding to such incidents. This was reported by the news agency Reuters.

Matthew Whitaker described the incident in Leipzig as more alarming than other recent incidents on NATO territory. Previous cases involved Russian drones that attacked Ukraine and veered off course.

“In addition, there are what I would call more alarming hybrid actions, as we saw in Leipzig, as we saw in Poland,” Witaker said while speaking on the sidelines of a business conference in Italy.

According to him, NATO countries must be prepared for such threats and remain vigilant. They must also send a clear message in response to such challenges.

“If we can identify who is doing this—as Germany has done—we will certainly state firmly that this is unacceptable, and we will not tolerate it,” said Whitaker.

The U.S. ambassador also warned of possible attacks on critical infrastructure. Among potential targets, he specifically mentioned energy facilities. According to him, national authorities must monitor such facilities and closely track potential threats.

The primary responsibility for responding to such incidents lies with individual NATO member states. At the same time, the U.S. is prepared to support its allies in countering hybrid attacks, Vitaker stated.
