A Belarusian Man Found 17,000 Rubles In The Grass In A Field

The Minsk Region Internal Affairs Directorate detained four residents of Polotsk, aged 29 to 35, who are suspected of participating in a telephone scam. The men intended to embezzle money fraudulently obtained from a pensioner.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, one of the suspects found a part-time job online as a courier for the scammers. He was fully aware that he was helping criminals steal the savings of elderly people.

To carry out his first assignment, the man traveled to Minsk, bringing three acquaintances with him under the pretext of a vacation together. At first, he was unable to find the stash of money hidden by the scammers, so he decided to stay in the capital for another day. The suspect told his friends about his work and promised to share the ill-gotten gains with them.

The next morning, the man resumed his search and eventually found a bag of money in the grass in the middle of a field. As it turned out later, that was exactly where the defrauded pensioner from Brest had left it.

The perpetrators divided 17,000 rubles among themselves, but they did not have time to use the money—all four were detained by police officers. The money was seized and is scheduled to be returned to the victim.

Investigators have opened a criminal case on charges of fraud.
