New details of the powerful AFU strike.
During the AFU missile attack on the Belbek military airbase, missiles were aimed at the Russian Armed Forces command centre located south of the runway. There was not just one missile, but a whole swarm of them. Therefore, it is possible to hit a number of other useful targets on the territory of the military base of the Russian occupiers.
The experts of the Defence Express portal told about the hits on Belbek.
The experts noted that the AFU could have hit important targets, as was mentioned by the commander of the AFU Air Force Mykola Oleshchuk when he confirmed the missile attack.
In particular, the commander explained that the 204th tactical aviation brigade from Sevastopol was stationed at the airfield until 2014. He also explained that more than one missile was used in the attack, so it was possible to hit several points.
Based on the geolocation of the smoke cloud by an OSINT investigator nicknamed DniproOsintNew, reports on Russian non-governmental Telegram channels and information from anonymous sources, the portal listed three possible targets for the Ukrainian missiles.
First, they hit the underground command centre of the airbase, located at the coordinates 44.676684946980856, 33.55270148866832.
Secondly, they could have hit the radio centre of the headquarters of the entire aviation of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation. The facility is located 2 kilometres east of the first point. The conclusion is based on a message on the Astra telegram channel reporting a hit on the communication point of military unit 80159. V/h 80159 is in fact the 38th fighter aviation regiment of the Russian Federation, the experts noted.
Thirdly, it is possible to hit the radar station. For example, near Belbek, the enemy has a radar station like Nebo, which is able to detect the approach of ballistic missiles.
The portal explained that they doubted that the military aircraft of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation based at the airfield would be hit. They explain that the choice of targets depends on the type of missile used in the attack.
In particular, Scalp/Storm Shadow missiles are designed to destroy underground bunkers, fortified points. It does not make sense to use them to damage aircraft. Meanwhile, the attack on the underground structures confirms the information about the landslide on the coast near the airfield, Defence Express experts summed up.
Explosions at Belbek airfield - details
