The leaders of the European Union agreed on two compromises.

The leaders of the European Union had to agree on two compromises to unlock the 50 billion euro aid for Ukraine within the framework of the Ukraine Facility program.

The Guardian reports.

On the basis of the commission annual report on the implementation of the Ukraine facility, the European Council will hold a debate each year on the implementation of the facility with a view to providing guidance.

“If needed, in two years the European Council will invite the commission to make a proposal for review in the context of the new MFF (Multiannual Financial Framework),” the newspaper notes.

The European Council recalls its December 2020 conclusions on the application of the conditionality mechanism.

According to the Press Secretary of President of the European Council Charles Michel, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán eventually succumbed to pressure after a series of meetings yesterday, January 31, and today, February 1, with the prime ministers of Italy, France and Germany. During the negotiations, they agreed to the aforementioned compromises and Michel “quickly consulted with other EU leaders.”

One of the main topics of today's summit in Brussels was an attempt to reach an agreement on a package of financial assistance to Ukraine worth 50 billion euros for four years. It is worth recalling that the package was blocked by Hungary during the last meeting on December 1.

Despite everything, EU leaders have already approved the 50 billion euro aid for Ukraine within the framework of the Ukraine Facility program.
