The European Belarus leader spoke at the World Liberty Congress in Washington.

On March 12, a press conference of the World Liberty Congress was held at the National Press Center in Washington, dedicated to the official presentation of this organization, reports Charter97.org

The World Liberty Congress is a global alliance of freedom fighters made up of 300 activists from 56 countries with authoritarian and dictatorial regimes.

Last November, the General Assembly of the World Congress was held, at which Masih Alinejad (Iran) was elected President of the Congress, Garry Kasparov (Russia) — Vice President, and Leopoldo López (Venezuela) — Executive Secretary.

The Steering Council of the Congress was also elected, which included coordinator of the European Belarus civil campaign Andrei Sannikov.

As the leaders of the new global organization noted at the press conference, today we are witnessing a global surge in authoritarianism. Over two-thirds of the world's population now lives under autocratic rule. Two decades ago, this was unthinkable. We must steer a global path back to democracy!

The WLC stands united against the increasing collaboration between tyrants.

With 1 million political prisoners worldwide, the time to stand up and fight for freedom and the right to choose our leaders is now.

Today the World Liberty Congress calls on leaders of the free democratic world to put the release of political prisoners at the top of their foreign policy agendas and work in solidarity with freedom activists to bring an end to dictatorships.

Andrei Sannikov

The Congress is committed to confronting and defeating the criminal alliance of dictators by joining our efforts and working with democratic governments and movements around the world, expanding our grassroots outreach, countering disinformation, and building a strong front that will continue to defend and promote democratic values until until we get rid of all autocratic regimes.

Speaking at the press conference, Andrei Sannikov also emphasized the urgent need to fight for the life and freedom of political prisoners. In his opinion, the World Liberty Congress is designed to strengthen the voices of freedom fighters from different countries and ensure that these voices cannot be ignored by the leaders of democratic states.

“The situation with democracy today is difficult, in the world as a whole, and in our countries,” Sannikov said, “tyrants throw people into prison and force them to leave the country. But we are not victims, we are fighting these regimes and will fight until victory. We are also witnesses to their crimes, and our task is to bring them to the dock and present our evidence at the trial for crimes against humanity.”
