The controversial general became the “deputy dictator for war.”
The Telegram channel "Belarusian Intelligence" reported on the reasons for appointment of General Pavel Muraveiko as deputy head of Lukashenko’s administration:
— Muraveiko is a professional political officer. He knows how to anticipate the mood and thoughts of his superior and skillfully, with enthusiasm, report exactly what they want to hear. He’s also a good organizer. That’s exactly why the dictator took a liking to him.
The channel’s sources report that Muraveiko easily passed the vetting process, as Lukashenko had long been considering him specifically for the position of special assistant upon the expiration of his contract and reaching the age of 55:
— At the last minute, it was apparently decided not to make any changes to the staff, and a special position was created for him specifically within the Presidential Administration.
Muraveyko has a special mission—to instill military discipline in carrying out orders throughout the administrative hierarchy, since the largely civilian leadership of the Presidential Administration is unable to demonstrate “the highest level of discipline.” He did not come to replace Volfovich’s role; rather, he will implement military standards within the administration, instill a culture of compliance, and foster cooperation with the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Lukashenko has set the task of touring and “shaking up” all district and city executive committees, right down to large farms and enterprises. He aims to strengthen the territorial defense forces and the militia. But his most important role is mobilization work. Lukashenko makes no secret among his inner circle that “anything can happen.”
In short: Muraveiko is becoming the country’s “chief military commissar” and the chief coordinator of mobilization preparations nationwide, encompassing the entire security apparatus without exception. His task is to link the Armed Forces and the command chain at the administrative level. He is to ensure the mobilization readiness of government agencies, industry, and the national economy as a whole, regardless of ownership structure.
In other words, Muraveyko has assumed a new position: “deputy head for war.”
