The Yemeni government’s armed forces announced that they had regained control of the port city of Mocha on the Red Sea. It had been captured by fighters from the “Ansar Allah” (Houthi) group on September 10.
“The ‘Shield of the Nation’ forces, a unit of the ‘Brigade of Giants,’ and the Tihama Resistance, supported by the popular militia, have taken control of Mocha, west of the city of Taiz, following fierce battles with the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militia,” according to a statement from the Yemeni Armed Forces Media Center X.
The city of Mocha is located approximately 75 km north of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden in the Arabian Sea. This is the shortest maritime route for shipping goods from Asia to Europe, as well as for transporting oil.
