The Tuapse oil refinery in Russia's Krasnodar region suffered significant damage in the latest attack on April 16. The overwhelming majority of the impact was on the complex's tank farm.
This is evidenced by Vantor satellite images published by Exilenova+. Judging from the footage, a significant portion of the park was damaged or destroyed.
What it's about
A visual assessment, as noted, the fire took out pumping stations, a railroad oil loading rack, process pipelines and tie-in units. This is due to the fact that the refinery is a key hub for storage and accumulation of finished petroleum products and a buffer to the entire logistics of the facility.
In addition, the fire could cause a double effect as the fire could spread to adjacent industrial facilities and infrastructure of the complex.
It is noted that even without direct hits on refinery units, the attacks could significantly limit the receipt, storage and shipment of crude oil and petroleum products, resulting in a decrease in overall operational efficiency.
What preceded
The Tuapse fire came after two drone strikes on the port. On April 16, an oil refinery burst into flames. The fire was extinguished in three days. On April 19, an oil slick was discovered in the sea, and on April 20, the facility flared up again due to a second strike.
