Trump announced the deal.

The U.S. announced that it had reached an agreement with Canada, as a result of which the imposition of new 50% tariffs on Canadian goods was postponed.

This was reported by CNN.

Initially, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a three-day delay in the tariffs, contingent on the finalization of the agreement. He later told reporters that during negotiations with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, the parties had reached an agreement.

“We have reached an agreement with Canada,” Trump said. At the same time, he noted that the document still needs to be finalized.

According to the U.S. president, both sides will make certain concessions and take appropriate measures. He did not provide any other details about the future agreement.

The 50% tariffs were set to take effect at midnight and apply to a wide range of Canadian goods. These included, in particular, dairy products, alcohol, and furniture. CNN estimates that imports worth approximately $20 billion could be subject to the new tariffs.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney confirmed that the imposition of the tariffs has been postponed until the end of the day on August 21.

“Substantial progress has been made, although there is still a lot of important work ahead,” he noted.
