The dictator commented on his guest's appearance.

On the evening of August 20, Alexander Lukashenko met informally with the leader of Myanmar’s military junta Min Aung Hlaing.

The one-on-one talks took place at one of the Belarusian dictator’s residences. The Myanmar leader was driven up to the porch in a red-and-green golf cart. Alexander Lukashenko greeted his guest on the steps, commenting on his appearance:

“You’re dressed like that… I don’t have anything like that. You look every bit the European, not Asian,” Lukashenko commented on the appearance of Myint Aung Hlaing, who arrived at the meeting wearing jeans, a white shirt, and a plaid jacket.

On August 20, the leaders held one-on-one talks and also had dinner in an informal setting, according to Lukashenko’s press service.

The usurper emphasized that Minsk and Naypyidaw have “cooperated very intensively” recently and assured that “the Belarusian side will carry out everything that has been agreed upon.”

“We’ve opened all doors to you and your businesspeople—please take a look. Whatever interests you, and whatever we can do—from agriculture to the military-industrial complex—we will do everything we can for you,” Lukashenko promised.

As a reminder, Min Aung Hlaing led a military coup in Myanmar in February 2021, following which the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi was overthrown. In April 2026, he assumed the presidency following elections organized by the military, which took place without full opposition participation and were met with international criticism. Meanwhile, a civil war continues in the country.

Relations between Minsk and Naypyidaw have noticeably intensified in recent years. According to the Belarusian government, Lukashenko and Min Aung Hlaing met six times in 2025 alone. In July 2026, Lukashenko made a working visit to Myanmar.
