Kyiv has developed a strategy to "hunt down" Russian missile launch sites.
Ukrainian defense forces struck a Russian "Iskander" launcher near the border. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a conversation with journalists on August 22, according to New Voice.
“Today we have achieved another success. Due to the sensitive nature of the operation, we cannot disclose many details, but the fact remains. We struck an ‘Iskander’ launcher near our borders. I am grateful to our soldiers who are carrying this out. This is our operation to hunt down their systems located nearby,” the President of Ukraine stated.
According to him, amid a shortage of missile defense capabilities, Ukraine has developed a tactic of “hunting” down Russian missile launch sites.
“In other words, this is one approach given the shortage of anti-ballistic missiles—there is also another, more complex tactic that we have developed: targeting nearby launch sites from which ballistic missiles are launched. This is a separate story, a separate program, a separate operation. And today we succeeded in this. Our Defense Forces are simply outstanding,” the head of state added.
As reported by BBC News Ukraine, Russia continues to ramp up the production and use of ballistic missiles against Ukraine. This is happening at a time when Kyiv is facing an acute shortage of missiles for its Patriot systems, which could remedy the situation.
During July, Russia launched nearly 200 ballistic missiles (including S-400 anti-aircraft missiles and hypersonic “Zircon”/“Onyx” missiles), according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense. This is a record since the start of the war.
“The military knows that they need to destroy enemy launchers in order to reduce the number of strikes on Ukraine’s strategic infrastructure. They are doing this and will continue to do so,” President Zelenskyy said on August 5.
